Hi, I'm trying to purchase a dog guard for a 2019 SZ4. I can see something like on the official accessory list, but it's not full width and has 2 large gaps either side the headrests. Does anyone know if such a thing exists?

Hi pixelpower,

The one shown on the official accessories list is actually just a cargo partition and it specifically mentions that it's not suitable to use as a dog guard :(

I'm planning on just using a big old double duvet stuffed in the back for our dog to sit on, it should be enough to protect the backs of the seats and all that slippery shiny plastic ....I'm also thinking of getting a fitted flexible boot liner, or maybe adapting an old one we had for another car if possible.

Look forward to seeing what comes up here as I need the same!

The slick plastic seat backs caused problems with my usual dog mat right from the start since the first firm application of the brakes caused my young labrador to slide forward on the mat and he actually fell into the gap behind the front seats!

After that, it took a lot of persuading to get him into the back again!

Solved that problem by getting a product called “Vetbed non-slip” which is widely available (I got mine from ‘Pets at Home’).

It has a fleecy side which is just the right thickness to give padding without smothering and overheating: it is tough and machine washable as hot as you like, and most importantly it has a non stick backing which means zero slip in the back of the Jimny.

I got the large size at £33 which is slightly larger than the whole back of the Jimny with seats down so you could trim it to an exact fit.

Dog loves it, he had one lining the bottom of his cage as a puppy so he’s used to it anyway.

Still have the gap behind the back seat, but at present I’m stuffing my dirty old dog walking coat in there.

As a rider to my reply, a couple of additional point which may interest dog owners: I had a moment of sheer panic whenI got it home and couldn’t find the button to turn off the alarm’s interior motion sensor (which allows you to lock the car with the dog inside) renders it totally useless as a dog waggon i thought, then realised it doesn’t actually have an interior motion sensor....

Second, the back is really quite high so although my long legged young labrador can get in and out quite easily, a smaller or arthritic dog is going to struggle!

Quick and dirty for £20 - manufactured from Toolstation “Solvent Weld 32mm PVC Pipe & Fittings”
www.toolstation.com/plumbing/solvent-weld-waste/c297

Mounted with SnapSafe Vehicle Headrest Gun Hooks
www.amazon.co.uk/SnapSafe-Vehicle-Headre...n-Rack/dp/B01MY2Q16Z

Less than 30 minutes to create - more a deterrent than a guard but it keeps my hounds at bay.

I wanted to retain rear/side visibility - more ingenious members will be able to improve on the design.

The original "dog guard" was re-designated a "cargo partition" when (I believe) it was found to not stop a largish dog hurtling forward in an accident and injuring the driver/passenger.

However the cargo partition in the new LCV is far more substantial and can be fitted to the 4 seater Gen4 Jimnys if the seats are removed.
