Clutch or something else? was created by Young Pretender
Hey

The Jimny is a little notchy when going into 2nd and 4th gear (all the time). I have to be very deliberate with the clutch to avoid a crunch. I’ve noted a smell of clutch periodically at times I wouldn’t expect t to smell it too.

Silly question maybe but would a clutch on the way out give me those gbox symptoms?

Also any idea on what sort of £ Range I should expect to replace clutch at local type inde?

2001 manual Jimny

Cheers
Mark

sounds like clutch - smells like clutch - probably clutch

You can get as a three part kit from as little as £50, most on the forum seem to prefer Exedy as a quality choice. Around £65 ish.

I will second Sniper, sounds like time to buy an excedy!

perhaps 2hrs is ambitious tho, more like 4-8 for a garage, depending upon experience of Jimnys and siezed bolts.

The starter motor needs taken out to do this so its really worth cleaning the contacts or a new one at the same time (pig of a job to swap it). The small wire on the solenoid caused me hassle for ages until i cleaned and sorted it out properly.

Edit: check the wiki, im sure theres a load of stuff from Martin on there about the clutch job

Only took 2hrs to swap my clutch and gear box for new ones

(but I am lucky with bolts on mine though all come out nicely)
