Wow Max headroom, thats something I have never seen, they tend to just pack up.
Is it possible there is an issue with the altefnator pully / fan belt fit that lets them slip under load, leading to fanbelt failure?
Worth trying a new belt first and making sure it fits correctly, then get the alternator stested.

Yokohama Geolanders, Sony head unit, NAUTILUS Air Horn, DRL conversion, Rear cargo space, Elvis Bobblehead, transfer Guard, Indian hanging Elephant, Koni Heavy track dampers, Custom SS exhaust, Voodoo Doll, Adventure Rack with LED ight bar, vintage ERIBA caravan usually attached (yes it's slow)

My old alternator used to squeal sometimes on load, then one day locked solid and smoke came off the belt.
When I removed the belt it was seized all right, but turning it backwards freed it off completely.

The problem was rust inside.
When there is a high charging current the stronger magnetic field attracts the flakes of rust into the works and physically jams the alternator.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I seem to recall the garage had a technical name for the phenomenon, but it was really weird that's for sure.

Back in the day with old cars and fan belts I remember my old Mk1 Ford Escort used to 'chirp' every few revolutions. At the time I was working in a fighter aircraft wheel-bay, so I saturated a rag with powdered French chalk which we used for assembling aircraft tyres and tubes, and dusted it around the pulleys and belt on the car - and that worked.
In that instance I think the belt was contaminated with oil or something, and the chalk dust absorbed it
