VVT or not how to tell. was created by Nissan300
Hi guys.

I've only owned my jimny for a couple of months and I'm already hooked. My jimny is a 2005 jimny o2 with the face-lift dash and push button 4wd select. My question is my log book states 1298cc M13A and there are VVT logos on both front wings so is it a VVT or not ?.

I'm new to jimnys
But from what I've gathered from reading around only the vvt engines came with the push button 4wd select

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong

to be sure check the front end of the head.If it's a vvt it will have a bump on the end. non vvt is smooth

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)

Do the vvt engines still use a timing chain?

Yes it has a chain and yours is a VVT.

Should my log book not say 1328cc not 1298cc that's what's throwing me ?

check the engine number against the log book.
I'm not sure but I think the original convertibles came with the older engines till quite late so it may have been recorded wrong.
It's no easy matter to install a vvt as the wiring loom/ecu will need to be altered so if there is no obvious wiring bodges and the engine number matches either ignore it or get it changed.
If you decide to get it changed DVLA may want something on paper to confirm it so a headed letter from a local MOT place would probably be enough to confirm the error.

In those days it depended on what the garage wrote on the form sent in to DVLA.

I'm not up on the history of the o2 but did they have a "transitional" model at around that year??
There should be a sticker on the front of the cam cover with the engine number on but yours is missing so you'll need to find the engine number on the block.
I think it's tucked away but I don't know where it is so possibly Martin or someone could explain??

Engine number is behind the exhaust.....engine to gearbox interface....easy enough to see.
